Vicklyn and Camilla receive their awards

Joseph wins player of the year
The Brunel Hurricanes squad got “glammed up” this weekend to attend the inaugural Co-operative Netball Superleague Awards at the ICC in Birmingham.
The event hosted by Sky Sports Co-operative Netball Superleague presenter Ingrid Hagemann was a dazzling spectacle and Brunel Hurricanes head coach Denise Holland took the opportunity to hand out Brunel’s yearly awards on such a special night.
Vicklyn Jospeh won Brunel Hurricanes player of the year after another season of impressive performances in the shooting circle.
The award couldn’t have come at a better time for the 21 year old shooter who has also sealed a place as a PE Teacher at her old school Drayton Manor. The Student who graduates in July stated; “It’s been an exciting month for me, I didn’t even know I had been nominated for player of the year, let alone win it. I am so happy and feel very privileged”. She added; “The Awards ceremony was great fun and it was a special night for me, I can’t wait for the new season and my new job to start now!”
Jospeh won last year’s “Most improved player of year” a title won this season by Camilla Buchanan.
Mid-Courter Camilla was over the moon to receive her award stating; “It was very unexpected and a nice surprise, I am so pleased. It has been really nice to get my teeth in to a position this year and try and get some consistency after playing in other positions. The awards were such a great night and it was brilliant to be part of it all, I know that Hurricanes are determined to bounce back and scoop some of those big awards next year.
Other awards handed out at the Co-operative Superleague awards included the new “Maneater” award for the player most feared by their opponents. Our very own England star Naida Hutchinson was one of the players up for contention, her nomination for the award was met with cheers but unfortunately the title went to fellow England player and England captain Amanda Newton who graciously laughed; “I think Naida should have won this!”.
Hurricanes match co-ordinator Carol McGrail was also nominated for Volunteer of the year.
Some of the other Co-operative Superleague awards included:
Player of the year:
Pamela Cookey Team Bath
Players’ player of the year:
Olivia Murphy Loughborough Lightning
Coach of the year:
Maggie Jackson Mavericks
Rookie for the year:
Serena Guthrie Team Bath
Umpire of the year:
